Service League of Greater Lakeway – What Is it? Approximately twenty years ago a "few good men and women" decided there was a need in Lakeway for an organization known as "Service League – Neighbor Helping Neighbor." Their first meeting was held at City Hall, which at that time was called Village Hall, on September 20, 1988. And so began this wonderful organization! Living in Lakeway is very different from any place you’ve probably ever lived. What makes Lakeway so unique is the concern we have for each other. Mention a problem to someone and there is an immediate response of concern and an offer to help. Lakeway-ites enjoy helping each other. The first officers of the Service League were: President: Margaret (Peg) Tolzmann, Vice President: Leland (Lee) Warner, Secretary-Treasurer: Richard Shultz and Volunteer Coordinator: Frances Cheatham. There have been many volunteers since the Service League’s inception twenty years ago. Volunteer workers answer the phone and match those in need with others who have volunteered to provide an array of services that meet short-term needs. Services include transportation, social contact, minor household repairs, home health aids such as wheelchairs, walkers, canes, etc. There is no charge for any service. Volunteers are always needed – join us as a Service League Volunteer. It is a very rewarding experience. For further information, contact the Service League Office 261-3514 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Monday through Friday. Submitted by Betty Colovas
