Current News:

What We Do
The Lakeway Historical Society was founded in 1988 to educate residents and to promote and preserve the history of this unique community.

Over a decade later, the Historical Society continues to grow with events and projects that reinforce this commitment.

Where We Are
The Lakeway Historical Society is located at the corner of Lohman’s Crossing and Hurst Creek Road in the Byron D. Varner History Center.  The frame building is attached to the oldest stone ranch house in the area, a tract of land once part of the 13,000 acre Josey Ranch.
Membership in the Lakeway Historical Society
Membership is open to all interested residents.  Yearly membership fee is $25.00.  For information, contact Peggy Point at 261-8154 or the City Hall Office at 261-6090 and ask for a Heritage Society Member.

Annual Veterans Day Celebrations

Each year the Historical Society stages a program to honor the men and women who have served in the Armed Forces and to educate the community about their selfless contributions to insure freedom.

Oral History Project

Plans are in the works to document the history of Lakeway by capturing the stories and memories of Lakeway residents.   Several of these oral histories have already been taped and you are invited to make an appointment at the History Center and listen to these tapes.

History Collection Open for Research

The Lakeway Archives are now open for residents and other researchers to learn more about their community.  Please call 261-8154 or 261-6090 and ask for a Heritage Commission Member to set up an appointment.

Lakeway Historical Foundation Established

In recognition of the importance of preserving the past and the future of our city, the Lakeway Historical Foundation has been formed to provide a permanent endowment fund to support the development of archives and to maintain the Freedom Memorial and the building and grounds.   Funds, bequests, real property and gifts donated to the Foundation will be administered through the Society which is a non-profit , 501(c)(3), organization.

All donations are fully tax deductible, and 100% of the collections will be used for the purpose stated above.
