Lakeway Men’s Golf Association

The Lakeway Men’s Golf Association boasts a current membership of over 200 active golfers, and is actively seeking new players of all levels.

There are e golf events schedul, including individual and two and four man teams.  Most teams are created by the pro shop staffs.

The LMGA sponsors these tournaments each Tuesday and Friday, plus games on many Saturdays throughout the year.  All events use each golfer’s established handicap and we have a widely diverse group of ages and abilities.

Call the pro shops for additional information (Live Oak is 261-7173 and Yaupon is 261-7172).  Come join us for fun.

LMGA – Results and Upcoming Events

The first LMGA Major was played on April 18 and 19. A Ryder Cup format pitted one team with Van Johns as captain versus the team with Mike Mallett as captain. Each team was identified by the color of its golf cap: tan for Van and red for Mike. At the end of the first day, Mike’s team had a one point lead - but on the second day, Van’s team came through and won the overall championship. Each member of the winning team received a golf shirt.

There also was a raffle winner and closest-to-the-pin winner each day, with Saturday’s round followed by beer and a cookout. There were 33 raffle winners who received prizes, ranging from divot tools to a golf bag to dinners at the Hills and Flintrock.

The LMGA also played a "Home" and "Away" Interclub with Horseshoe Bay. We travelled to the Apple Rock course on April 10. It was a lovely day that got a bit windy. We narrowly lost on a course that many of us were playing for the first time and was a lot longer than those courses we play each week (and any excuse is better than none). A week and a half later, Horseshoe Bay came to Live Oak for the rematch and we won handily. Our visitors said they liked the course and the lunch. We will try to do this again in the fall.

The Saturday games continue to be well attended and competitive. There have typically been three or four flights and include a white tee flight.

On June 3, the weekday tour players have an event that rewards players that have played in at least 30% of events so far this year. The "June Bonanza" will have added prize money for the low net players that qualify. This will be in addition to the regular tour event that day.

We would also like to recognize our members who helped make the Kinko’s Classic a success as marshals, scorers, on-course distribution and many other committees. I think we can all identify with Nick Price, who was merrily going along until the golf gods got him.
