LMGA SEASONAL ACTIVITIES
LMGA NEWS Member-Member Tournament July 17-19 This year’s Member-Member Tournament will be held Saturday and Sunday, July 18 and 19 at both courses. It is open to all Lakeway Country Club golf members. Entry forms are in both pro shops. The tournament begins at 5 p.m. on Friday, July 17 at Live Oak. Entrants will register and receive their gift bag. Teams can also enter the optional day money pools, skins game, and British Open event. Each team that enters the British Open event will be assigned a player in the British Open whose score will be added to theirs to determine the winner. The tournament is flighted into a championship flight that will play from the gold tees for both gross and net prizes. There are men’s flights for blue tees and for white tees. There is no restriction on who can enter a flight but there will be no mixed blue and white tee players in a flight. There will be a ladies flight and a flight that uses the lady’s 9-holers rules. The actual number of flights will be determined by the number of entrants. A new feature this year is the ability for each player on a team to buy two mulligans per round to be used at his or her discretion (but there will be no mulligans used in the Championship flight). On Friday evening there is a skills challenge open to any pair of entrants that includes putting, chipping and sand shots with prizes to two men’s teams and one lady’s team. There will be a taco buffet in the Live Oak clubroom along with free beer and a cash bar. On Saturday there is a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. on both courses followed by a deli sandwich lunch at the Live Oak clubroom. On Sunday there is a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. on both courses followed by a fajita buffet. Awards will be given at this lunch. There are door prizes which will be given on Friday night and during the lunch on Saturday that includes a variety of golf equipment. The entry fees are $75 per person for the tournament, $10 per person for mulligans, $20 per person for day money, $10 per person for the British Open event and $10 per person for skins. While all but the $75 entry fee are optional, both members of the team must choose the same options (e.g. both buy into the skins game). Each flight will receive prizes in pro shop credit for the three top teams. There will also be a Closest to the Pin on one hole each day for each flight. There is also a "Greenie Raffle" held in conjunction with the LCC Junior Golf program. As each team plays Live Oak 13th hole and Yaupon 15th hole they can choose to enter the raffle for $5 per player. If a player hits the green with his or her tee shot (all flights will use the same tee – the normal red tee for the hole), then their name will go into the raffle. The drawing will be held each day at the luncheon.
Match Play Status The Match Play event is completing its third round as this is written. The double elimination tournament was kicked off at a party on May 9 for its 64 entrants. Play will continue through the summer with the final round expected in September. There have been some surprises and some interesting strategy choices. Some players have sought to nullify their opponent’s advantage by choosing white tees and some have played from the gold. A number of matches have gone past the 18th hole as well. LMGA Stimulus Package Just after the deadline for this newsletter, the LMGA held an event on Tuesday, June 16, that VP Halsey Frost named the LMGA Stimulus Package. Each player on that day received a free entry to the event, free skins and free beverages afterward. This comes to about $1,000 added to Lakeway’s golf economy. It’s the least we could do.
