The hours at the new location are:

Wednesday – Friday        10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Saturday                            10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Sunday                  1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The phone number for the new library is 263-2885.

I have been emphasizing the “new” but it is also time to quote the minutes of the Lake Travis Community Library Board.  “For twenty–one years the Lake Travis I.S.D. has permitted the Community Library to co-exist in the Lake Travis High School Library.  They have been gracious hosts in their support of the Community Library!   Board trustees, administrators and faculty have all assisted in ways too numerous to count.  Over the years, the high school librarians have served as the Community Librarian.  The Lake Travis Community Library would not be what it is today without the assistance of the LTISD.  They have been thanked for their continuous support and asked to continue the close relationship developed over the years.”  So let us all send our thanks to the LTISD for helping make it all possible.

Thanks go to all of those volunteers who have worked for those twenty-one years to make this library what it is today.  I rarely speak to anyone who was in Lakeway those first fifteen years, who does not mention their volunteer work for the library.  So thank you all.

It has been a joint effort by the community to get our new facility up and running.  Remember that this is your library for your use and enjoyment, and I just hope that you are all thrilled at this new facility.

Carol Black reported fifty volunteers went to the library at the high school March 13 and packed all the books (15,000) in three hours time. This is another typical reaction from people in Lakeway.

Our new librarian, Sharon Temple, has been working hard this month. She is expanding the children’s story hour. There will be one on Monday and Tuesday mornings at 10 a.m. and one each second Saturday at 10:30 a.m., starting on November 12. All pre-school children are welcome, as well as nursery schools. The Primrose School has been coming to these programs. Sharon has many good ideas for the library and will be working with the board to implement these as well as working with them on the new library building. She announced that we acquired 32 new patrons in September and that 2631 items were circulated during this time. She also announced that we will soon be receiving grants of $2,144 from the Lone Star Libraries Grant and $2,478 from the Central Texas Library System, Inc. Grant.

Dan Pederson gave the end of the fiscal year treasurer’s report. The document, along with other documents, will now go to the auditors. The district has received almost $36,000 above the state’s estimate of sales tax receipts. The district’s revenue is about $30,000 above the district’s forecast. We now have $21,000 in the Reserve Fund and $153,000 in the building and land fund.

Ginger Gober, President of the Friends of the Library, gave an interesting proposal to the board. There is a building at the 620 Mall, 107 RR 620 North, Suite 300 , that has just been vacated and would be available for a temporary location for the Lake Travis Community Library. It is a two-story building with ample space. The owner seems very eager to have the library there and has offered to put in an elevator as well as other things that might be needed. There is plenty of parking available. There is no traffic light there, but she asked the board to at least consider looking into this possibility.  Mrs. Gober said that there is a real shortage of space in the High School Library and she feels that it is time to move. All shelves are full and there is no space to put in additional shelving. The Friends have been the backbone of the Community Library for the past twenty years. These dedicated people have worked hard to make and keep a library for the community and we will never be able to thank them for all they have done. Mrs. Gober said, "We need to find an interim space while waiting for a wonderful building."
